Muhanga, July 26, 2024 The Institut Catholique de Kabgayi (ICK) celebrated its accomplishments over the past two years, including the two-year anniversary of the ICK News online magazine.

The event, hosted at the Lucerna Hotel in Muhanga, convened key figures in Rwandan journalism, including notable individuals such as Peacemaker Mbungiramihigo from the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB), Cleophas Barore, Head of the Rwanda Media Commission (RMC) and Director General of the Rwanda Broadcast Agency (RBA), along with representatives from leading media organizations and diverse members of the ICK community, spanning from the Chancellor to students.

In his address, Bishop Balthazar Ntivuguruzwa of the Kabgayi Diocese and Chancellor of ICK expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the entire ICK family for their significant contributions. He highlighted the rapid progress ICK has made, notably the expansion with a new campus dedicated to Nursing and Midwifery.

“Today is more than a celebration. It is a time to strengthen our bonds, increase our brotherhood, and reflect on how we can continue to improve and excel in all that we do,” Bishop Ntivuguruzwa said.

He emphasized that while ICK has achieved many milestones, it is not the final stage. “We need to build on our achievements and plan for even bigger goals. In our big vision, we need to increase the departments, as there are other ones being planned. We also need to strengthen the Nursing and Midwifery department so that in the coming years, we will have a full Medicine program. We are not going to stop; this is the right way to move forward.”

Bishop Ntivuguruzwa also underscored the importance of improving the institution’s infrastructure and acquiring modern equipment.

He called for collective collaboration, recognizing that ICK’s success is a result of the combined efforts of its community. “ICK doesn’t work alone; it works because of you (workers). It works because of the lecturer who uses their energy in teaching, the student who works hard in their studies, and everyone in the ICK community who fulfills their responsibilities very well.”

On ICK News, Bishop Ntivuguruzwa expressed his gratitude to the students and lecturers of the Faculty of Journalism for their hard work and dedication in writing stories.

He acknowledged the partners who have contributed to the success of the writing process, including the Fojo Media Institute, Pax Press, the Rwanda Media Program, and the US Embassy. “I wish for ICKNews to continue to grow stronger and achieve greater heights,” Bishop Ntivuguruzwa said.

Established in 2002, ICK currently enrolls over 4,000 students. It offers a comprehensive range of programs, including 12 bachelor’s degrees in various fields and six diploma and postgraduate programs in education. ICK News has so far produced over 1,100 news stories, reflecting the vibrant and dynamic nature of the institution.
